As it is still quite dark in the mornings and when children are cycling home can we please remind everyone that they MUST have lights on their bikes and if cycling on the pavements children MUST be ‘pedestrian aware’. We had an incident prior to the holidays where a neighbour was knocked over before school by two children on bikes and obviously this is not acceptable.
The rules we discussed previously were that all bikes should be walked past the Crown shops to avoid bumping into anyone. If approaching a pedestrian, cyclists must make them aware by shouting or ringing a bell. If cyclists think the pedestrian might not have seen or heard them they MUST get off their bikes and walk past.
We would appreciate all parents/carers taking some time to discuss this with their children if they cycle to school, so we can ensure that everyone is safe and our community relations remain strong. Thank you!
