A report from our P6/7 Football coaches:
P7’s end of season match vs Coaches and presentation of awards – Sunday 26th June
The much anticipated annual P7’s vs Coaches match was held at Walker Park on Sunday afternoon and as is tradition the weather decided to be against us. The P7’s had used their time in Millburn last week to recruit a couple of helpers in anticipation of the competitive nature of the Coaches involved and the match kicked off at 3pm with everyone very committed to the cause. The first period belonged to the P7s with determined efforts from all of them giving them a one goal lead and the coaches little opportunity and glad of the referee’s whistle to gain some rest. The second and third periods generally followed suit with the P7’s giving the coaches a real work out whilst creating a few chances but not managing to add to their single goal tally. Into the final ten minute’s the coaches managed to score the much needed equalising goal to see how the P7’s could cope with the pressure they were now under. Unfortunately for the coaches this just seemed to be the spark the P7s needed to raise their game once again scoring three quick goals to win the match 4-1 and maintain the tradition of sending the coaches home to think again.
Following the match were the end of season awards where all the players were presented with the P7 2016 Player trophies and the awards for ‘Players Player’ and ‘Most improved’ player.
Huge congratulations to Ford for winning the ‘2016 Most Improved’ award and to Sean for winning the ’2016 Players Player’ award – both thoroughly deserved although it was a difficult decision and could have been anyone in the squad so no need to feel disappointment for those missing out.
Huge thanks to everyone for playing, contributing and supporting the P7s during the season and for this end of season match. It was great fun and enjoyed by all with the boys putting in a brilliant performance to deservedly win the game with just a wee help from a couple of volunteers. Think all the coaches worked as hard as we could and didn’t really come close to matching the performance from the kids. Special thanks to Hutch and Pete for assisting with the P6/7 squad this season and good luck for next season.
It’s been great being involved with this squad they really are a nice group always looking out for and supporting each other and hope they always remain friends and continue to develop as well in the future as they have done so far.
Please see below some photos from Sunday together with some nostalgic photos from earlier years just to remind us how they have all grown and developed!
We wish all involved with the school football all the very best for the future and onwards and upwards for the P7s with their Secondary School football and other adventures.
Best Regards Martin & Ewan
On behalf of the school can we say a HUGE thank you to our coaches who work tirelessly with the children every weekend and give them an opportunity to learn new skills, be part of a team and have FUN! We really appreciate YOU :).
