Digital literacy, social networking, online research, tweeting, messaging… these are all things today’s children take for granted. Technology is a big part of their lives and will continue to be in the future. Our responsibility as teachers is to give them the skills and strategies to harness the wonders of the Internet but do so safely. Parents have an equally important role in this and there are many resources available to start the conversations with children that will help them make the right choices and stay safe online.
Click on the image above to visit the Child Exploitation and Online Protection site (CEOP) where you will find a whole host of support materials for keeping your child safe online.
For parents of children aged 8 or over, CLICK HERE to view and discuss a video about Social Networking. Parents and children should watch this together and talk about any changes they need to make to ensure they stay safe online.
We’re more than happy to host workshops for Second Level (P5-7) parents on Internet Safety if people are interested, just let us know!
