One of my favourite picture books is ‘Erika’s Story’. It’s based on a true story about someone who survives the Holocaust. It’s really sad but hopeful at the same time…
My favourite authors would have to be Neil Gaiman (Coraline, Wolves in the Walls…) and Paul Jennings (Sink the Gizmo, Come back Gizmo and his short stories are amazing!).
I think The School For Good And Evil is fascinating!!!
I couldn’t stop reading so I stayed up till 1:00am once because it was so good!!!
Lara thinks its really good as well!!!
If you don’t know him, John Hegley is wonderful poet and wordsmith. His poems are influenced by personal experiences from childhood and beyond, which include: wearing glasses, his love of dogs, his relationship with his father and his grandparents, his French connections, and growing up in London.
In his book of children’s poems, whilst containing many, many funny poems there are also a number of poems with strong social messages, like ‘Bully for you’. This came out of a literacy project with a primary school local to the poet’s home in London. It is a most interesting book, entirely contemporary and a good way into poetry for all the bookworms at Crown. Have you a copy in the library?
I have read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It one of the best books I have ever read. It is about a boy called August who looks different and tries to fit in at school.
